Artist's StatmentI paint figurative still lifes in oil, pastel and pencil and produce multi-layered landscapes using photographic processes printed as fine art giclĂ©es on watercolor paper and canvas. My work, based on my own photographic sources, is in the genre of Magical Realism. My website is designed to display all of my most recent work. As such, some of the illustrated works are no longer available for purchase. If you would like information about specific works, please contact me at marjoriejordan11@gmail.com. Nature is the subject of my deepest love. I mean for my work not only to illustrate the amazing creativity, life-affirming beauty and complexity of Nature, but to win the viewer over to a sense of wonder for the natural order. Growing up in Latin America, my sensibilities were heavily influenced by the Magical Realist artists, writers and poets who perceive mundane, everyday life as always infused with mystical, magical elements, such as in Pablo Neruda’s Odes to Common Things, wherein, . . .“the planet is sublime . . . I love all things . . . many things have conspired to tell me the whole story.” I count myself among the many artists and writers working to change our mental outlook from a sense of entitlement to a sense of humility, awe and wonder with regard to the natural order. Global warming, along with mankind’s undiminishing use and consumption of the planet’s resources, can only be altered if we can change our perspective. My images are meant to cast light on the everyday miracles of Nature perpetually unfolding unnoticed right before our very eyes. Marjorie Jordan Atlanta, Georgia |
